I made a dress!! Actually I'm in the process of making a few dresses, this is one of the styles I made. I LOVE it so much!! I'm planning on making more this weekend and putting them in the shop for Spring and Summer! I'm excited to show you the other styles AND cute tank tops I've got in the making as well :)

Hello! A while back I was given a Stylish Blogger award from the lovely Sunnie Fairy at Andrea's Garden and I'm supposed to share 7 things about me :) So here they are:

1. I only wear 'skinny' pants. I wore flares when they came into style and when skinnies started coming out, there was a girl at college who only wore skinnies and I thought that was weird and I wondered if one day I would think it was cool and do it too. YUP

2. I sort of allergic to cold. When I've been in a cold temperature for a while, I get welts and my skin itches and turns white. It's so strange and for years I thought it was a normal thing. Turns out it is not. Not quite sure why I live where there is Winter for 8 months of the year....oh well

3. I currently have a TON of cool ideas to try for my Boutique and I'm so busy I don't have time to try them, it is driving me NUTS!!!

4. I went to college for 4 years, got 2 diplomas (1 in worship arts, 1 in counselling) and I am not doing anything career wise with them. Sure I play music in church and psychology can be helpful when dealing with people in any setting, but I have no desire to actually pursue these things! Funny how that works.

5. When I was in highschool I was in all the choirs you could be in. Junior choir, Senior choir, Jazz choir...Honor choir, Central Manitoba Youth Choir...too bad Glee wasn't on then yet or we might've been cool :D haha.

6. I learned to fish last summer! It was fun and I'm excited to go again this year :)

7. Right now I'd say 50% of what I wear is thrifted clothes, the other 50% Forever 21. That is a little interesting to me. Since my business is strictly recycled, I really don't enjoy shopping brand new anymore. I don't like the mall, I don't like buying something off a rack of 25 of the same thing...I don't know, just not for me. However, I love shopping online at Forever 21. Just for some things that I can't find at thrift stores and don't know how to make myself.

Well, there you have it folks, 7 things about me.
Sorry it's so quiet around here lately, I've been SUPER busy and I'm kind of saving stuff for my new blog but I haven't had time to get it done yet. So I'll be around and hopefully by the end of March I'll have moved to the new blog AND introduced my new stuff for Spring and Summer!! yay!

Y'know what's poopy? I have all these great ideas for Heidi-and-Seek Boutique but I have to go to work! So I can't try them, and that frustrates me a lot. I really wish I did not need an income right now so that I could stay at home and whip up all the neat-o ideas I've been kicking around lately. I just attempted THE CUTEST dress ever on my day off yesterday...it didn't work out quite right (but I can fix it and keep it for me! YAY!) but it helped me to figure out how to do the next one correctly and OH MAN I think you are going to love it. I already love it and I haven't even made it yet. OH boy.

Did I ever tell you I have the best boyfriend ever? Well I do.

Why you ask? Well too many reasons to list for you, but in the last few weeks he has:
-brought me tea and a cupcake at work when I was having a bad day.

-for our 1 year anniversary he bought me Beauty and the Beast, wrote me a love letter and made coupons for fun things like my choice of movie, sushi dinner where we get to dress up, doing my dishes for me (which I've already used), etc. SO SWEET

-helped me clean up my disasterous basement

-today my car ran out of gas and wouldn't start at work, so he is being a dear and going to my house, picking up a jerry can to put gas into it, coming to work and making sure I can drive home later.

My dear, you are my hero :D

Ok everyone roll your eyes and barf in your mouth a little :P I don't care. He's the best!

This is the first year I finally watched the entire show from start (Red Carpet included) to finish. It was rather enjoyable, I have to say. Here are some of my favorite styles of the night.

The gorgeous Natalie Portman, I haven't seen Black Swan yet, but I'm really glad she won!! She looked radient in this dress, I love this color so much.

Mila Kunis-this is just gorgeous. This color is so pretty on her

Jennifer Hudson looking stunning

Kate Blanchett-this is definitely an interesting design, but I actually like the idea and the colors

Scarlet Johansson-I love the brocade, so pretty! (Am I sensing a color scheme on the red carpet?)

And last but not least the gorious host Anne Hathaway (with James Franco-they were great!) This was my favorite dress of hers, I wished she'd worn it the most! So gorgeous!

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posting, it's been an intense week.
But-I have some news! I've decided to make a new blog under my business name, Heidi-and-Seek Boutique! It's not ready yet though, so I'll still be here for a while and of course I will let you know what my new blog address will be :)

I've been super busy since I got back from vacation, and I haven't found a routine as of yet, hoping to get my creative space cleaned up this weekend for maximum inspiration and motivation!!! (I find it very difficult to be motivated and inspired when I'm surrounded by mess which is unfortunate because I create a lot of mess and it can get overwhelming to the point where I don't want to clean it up so I don't!)

So while I'm getting everything on track, I'll be popping in and out with posts, and I will start with daily etsy shop finds! I love looking through the suggested shops in my etsy every day! Finding new shops that I love is so fun!!

Just like SNL! Just kidding. This won't be nearly as humorous :P

This weekend Heidi-and-Seek Boutique had a table at a local Flea Market! Here's a few photos of my table :)

Then on Sunday it was our one year anniversary!! So we drove to the city and had crepes and bubble tea (here's my man with our bubble tea!), went thrift store shopping, went out for a nice supper and finally came home and ended the evening with a movie. It was lovely!

Today I am very busy again, hopefully tomorrow I will have time to do another Project ReStyle! I haven't had time since I came back from my vacation!

What I'm Working On

Finally something crafty for you! I did a local giveaway a little while ago in which I gave away a surprise pack with items from my shop and something new! I'd been interested in trying a 'statement necklace' so I included this in the package.

For my first attempt ever I think it's pretty cool! I cut out the base shape on paper and then traced it onto a piece of white felt. Then I folded and glued the lace on half of the necklace. Then I chose some random and flat buttons and did a base layer and completed it with a random assortment of buttons with this color scheme and of course a feather or two :D
Finally, I glued a peach ribbon to the sides. It ties around the back of the neck.
I think it's kinda funky :D

And gave me these wonderful gifts!
Bohnanza (SUCH A GOOD GAME!) and mint chocolate. Mint is my absolute FAVORITE kind of chocolate.

I'm in Love with a Viking

Today is Valentine's Day and it's my FIRST Valentine's EVER with a special someone (as I'm writing this some co-workers are discussing how this is not a holiday of any sort and how girly folk get angry when certain men-folk don't acknowledge this certain day and are thinking it's ridiculous) and I'd like to say I've been SO PUMPED all day and had hearts in my eyes and bells on my toes BUT, my gifties haven't been working out so I am a tad bit frustrated. (Don't worry M, there are still gifties :D)
ALSO it is 1 YEAR on Sunday and that includes MORE gifties so my brain is full of nifty gifty ideas (I can't share, he'll hear me!)

Anyway, Mr. Valentine is whipping up a lovely meal for us as we speak (I am at work until 8pm and all I've eaten today is a bowl of Cheerios, and orange and TOO MANY cookies at work) and I've been text-bugging him cuz I am BORED.

H: 45 minutes is too long to be with Mr. Valentine!
M: Yeah! :D
H: How are things?
M: Good. Working on something for Sunday :D
H: :-0 what is it?

The little sneak! OKay that's all. But I'm SUPER EXCITED FOR SUPPER because my stomach is about to eat my spine and other internal organs as it has only really had cookies today, AND I am SUPER EXCITED FOR SUNDAY because well clearly there is some sort of something gift-like being cooked up that I can't know about and that there is making me curious! Plus we have a fun day in the city planned so that is awesome. Did I mention I've been dating the best man I could ever have asked for, for 1 WHOLE YEAR???! Oh I did? Oh. Ok.

Anyway..this is just my rambling cuz I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO bored at work and excited to go over to Mr. Valentine's house in about 20 minutes.

In fact, he just texted me asking why it is not 8 o'clock yet. What a lovely Mr.

Vacation Post!

HEY everyone! I'm finally back from my vacation :) It was fabulous. I wish I was still there! Coming back to snow and cold was not very fun after wearing shorts, tank tops and flip flops all week in Florida! I'm hoping to be back on track with blogging very soon :)

Tower of Terror! I did not go on this ride, turns out I'm not a fan of rides in the dark. Oh well.

and finally, fireworks at the Magic Kingdom.

I'd never been to Florida, or any kind of Disney anything and even though I'm an adult I had an absolute blast. I'd totally go back and do it all over again :) So if you have the chance DO IT! I promise you won't regret it :D

I am not a mother, not any near. But I found this blog post, and I thought it was super cool and inspirational! Basically she's showing how she makes something new for her daugther from clothes that are too small, dirty from playing outside, etc.

It made me think about recycling and how many pieces of clothing I have (or have gotten rid of) that I can change into something new! That's what I'm loving about Project ReStyle! Everything has potential :)

Vacation Fashion Picks

Hey everyone! I'm going to be on vacation for the next 9 days! I'm super excited. I was bored at work today so I put together a few looks that I quite possibly may rock whilst on my holiday!

This first outfit is for a hotter day, with a chance of hitting a water park. (Still waiting for my blue monokini to get here from GoJane..it has 1 more day..EEK!) Worn with cut offs and a loose fitting tank top, a shoulder bag, sunscreen, some cute sandals and sweet shades :)

Next up is an outfit to be worn to a nicer dinner with leisurely evening activity. Classier, but still with a relaxed style. A cute flowy tunic with tights, fun flats, pretty earrings, casual bag and of course: Burt's Bee's (I take it everywhere), some brown eyeshadow and lash blast mascara!

This last outfit is for the days it's not so warm out and the left side is doubling as my flight outfit. It's still cold here, so I'll wear something lighter underneath but will still need my feet completely covered, a jacket, and a circle scarf. ReStyle Tutorial

Here's my latest Project ReStyle DIY: a sweater into a cardigan!

Step 1: Lay the sweater out on a flat surface

Step 2: Use some sort of measuring stick to make sure you have a straight line down the middle (I lined everything up with the edge of my cutting mat to make sure it was straight)

Step 3: Draw the line onto the sweater (I used a pen because my pencils didn't show up, and you won't see it in the end anyway), and cut on that line (Make sure not to cut through the back as well, you only want to cut the front OBVSLY)

Step 4: Fold over the newly cut edges to hem and pin in place

Step 5: Sew down the hem (Make sure you sew in a straight line or the finished product will look WEIRD-usually I just eyeball it with the presser foot)

This is what it should look like post-hemming

Step 6: Pin lace/ribbon/something pretty in place along the edge of the newly hemmed edges and sew down. I went all the way around the front and the neckline.

And voila! A cute new cardigan :)

So Cheesy

On my day off during the week, I usually make lunch for my man! Since we recently stumbled upon Grilled Cheese Social, we thought it'd be cool to try something new! So I tried this one!

Firstly, heat a skillet on medium/high and add some olive oil, about a quarter size. Start out with whatever bread you choose (I really wanted sourdough but the bakery was out!! So I went Multi-grain Rye instead). Slice or shred (I should've shredded I think, it would've melted better) some fresh mozzarella onto the bottom slice.

Add a few pieces of prosciutto, folded if need be

then some fresh arugula

and finally top it off with some more mozzarella!

Then, add sandwich to skillet and fry on each side until both sides are golden brown. You may want to cover it with a pot lid if you decide to do sliced cheese as opposed to shredded so that the cheese will melt better.

And voila! Tasty grilled cheesiness!

I've been meaning to do this for a WHILE, I got these pants from a friend and while they are nice, I prefer to wear slim legged pants these days. These pants are a snazzy tweed so I thought they'd be cool 'skinny' pants for work!

And I'll show you how I did them (What's this? My first DIY EVER??!)
**I used pants that already fit me in the waist/hips

1. Flip your pants inside out and lie them down with the 'front' side up

2. Take a pair of skinnies that you already really like and lay them on top of the pants you want to fix. I would recommend cutting them up the inside because if you do it on the outside you run into the problem of the waistband and that is tricky. Especially if they already fit you in the hips.

3. Use your sewing pencil to trace the legs of the skinnier pants on the other pants
(I just traced the inner part because that is the part you want to sew up). You'll want to blend the line into the inner thigh when you get to the top so that you don't actually sew all the way to the top but it's not an awkward halt in the fabric).

4. Sew up the line you have drawn. (I would leave a 1" seam allowance from the line you drew when sewing, you don't want them to be too tight!)

5. Try those babies on! You'll probably have to make a few adjustments and you MAY have to stitch rip out what you've done a few times...but eventually you should get a cute skinny silhouette :)

Project ReStyle #2 and Etsy Update!

Yay! I love restyling stuff, it's so much fun! And it's great because I have drawers FULL of clothing that I've been wanting to do this with for a LONG TIME!

I found this dress at a thrift store and it looked like it could be a cute mini dress! Turns out I was right! I took out the shoulder pads and shortened it. Yup, that's pretty much it!

Everything is thrifted except for the tights...I can't remember where I got those.

Weekly Thrift Finds

I LOVE love LOVE love LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE shopping at Thrift Stores. It's like a treasure hunt. I go at least once a week, sometimes more often than that. And I thought I'd share some of the cool things I find there! Plus I'll show you if I get some amazing vintage that will be in the shop in the future :)

(Funny story-this weekend I was dropping something off for a friend, and we'd planned to meet up with her at this wedding she was going to. So me and my boyfriend were sitting in the church waiting, and the bride comes around the corner and it's someone my boyfriend knows from highschool...and we felt awkward. Later when we were talking about it, I was saying she probably was thinking "what is HE doing here?" To which my boyfriend followed up with "And why is his girlfriend dressed like a lumberjack?" Ahahahaaaa we laughed a lot at that one :D

Oh dear I've been so bad at blogging lately :( I'm just so busy I can barely think straight! Custom order here, poster design there, boyfriend time everywhere, family time somewhere, work, sleep, occasionally eat...*enter over dramatic sigh here*
Next week though I have a day off during the week so hopefully I will get some stuff done and work on the things I'd actually set as goals for this blog and my shop this year.

In the meantime, I'm now offering gift certificates in my shop! Just in time for.....after Christmas heh heh.... ah well :)

What I'm Working On

This week I've been working on something a little different. One of my co-workers has started up a Flea Market and I offered to make her a poster for it! I forgot how fun it is to do graphic design and play around in photoshop! I took both a graphic design and an applied graphics class in high school which taught me a LOT about using photoshop and other cool stuff :) Here's what I have so far. The first one is done (edited for privacy), and the second one I just need to do word placement and such.

Date Night!

So last night was DATE NIGHT! It was lovely :) After work I rushed home to change and get pretty in time for our dinner reservation. Here's what I wore.

We went to dinner at a nice restaurant, got blizzards from DQ for dessert, played Ticket to Ride and then watched Dirty Dancing. It was fabulous :)

Yay! My first Project ReStyle was a success! This tank top was one I bought from the kids section at Walmart a long time ago and haven't really worn it very much because the straps sit in a funny place (maybe cuz I'm not a child?) so I made it into a skirt!

Stumble Upon

I finally found one of these locally, and I decided to make the investment! I can't wait for it to get here! I've been wanting one for a few years now, and they are half price at my local fabric store! SO EXCITED!!

On another note, my boyfriend recently introduced me to Stumble Upon it is AWESOME! You can choose what kind of things you are interested (ie. fashion/fitness/cooking/photography) and you can 'stumble upon' sites that might interest you according to your interests!
Last week I stumbled on The Gawkerverse. More specifically it directed me to a page that is called the most favorited of all time on one part of this site which is called Craft Gawker I'm not even sure I've skimmed the surface of this site, but so far it's like we heart it but craft/diy/fashion/design specific! OH MY GOODNESS!

FINALLY! I made some goals, and I'd like to share them with you :)

Blog Goals:
-do at least 3 outfit posts a week
-a monthly vintage surprise pack giveaway!
-weekly thrift finds
-post at least 1 project weekly that I'm working on

Personal Goals:
-Eat healthier-I MEAN IT THIS TIME (haha) I just want to be more conscious of what I eat so that I can be healthy and FEEL healthy.
-Do some type of exercise 5 times a week! (I'm still working on the shred until Jan.29)
-Attempt at least 1 new idea every month! I've got a lot of cool ideas that I usually don't try because I'm scared to fail. HOWEVER-recently, I've been taking risks and trying some of them and they are actually turning out! PLUS when I make something and it doesn't turn out quite right, I can fix it and try again until I get it.

Sewing Goals:
-Elsie from A Beautiful Mess is starting up something called Project Restyle! The idea is to take something used or unwanted and make it into something new! I already LOVE to do this and I have drawers and drawers of things just waiting to be transformed into something new! I'm going to challenge myself to do one project a week! YAY! I can't wait to start, I'm so excited!
-Work on 1 home ec class project a week!

Yay! Hopefully this will give me a lot more to blog about this year too :) I'm excited, and I hope you are too! So to start these goals off, here is my first outfit post of the year!

Looking Back at 2010

Okay, I said I'd be back with both a look at this past year's goals AND next year's, but the look back was long enough already.
So let's see if I actually achieved any of my goals from last year:

1. Actually learn to sew (techniques and everything!) clothing and such
Sorta: I've been doing a LOT more sewing and obviously the more I sew the better I get! My sewing skills have WAY improved over the year. I also did the home ec class through Freckled Nest and a Beautiful Mess. when I say I did the home ec class..I mean I managed 2 or 3 projects until I got busy with holiday creating and have yet to continue. But I still want to-I mean I'm GOING to!! :)

2. Wear at least 1 thing I have made every day!
HA! That definitely didn't happen until a few weeks ago :P I did however wear some of my pillowcase tank tops in the summer, and lately I've been wearing my hooded scarves every day because they are amazing and cuddly and cute!

3. Continue training in dance
NOPE. I took a few months of hip hop at a local dance studio, but it just wasn't anything in comparison to what I had been taking when I was going to school a few years ago...it wasn't challenging enough, or very well organized :( Sad. I wish there was more opportunity for this around, I really miss dancing every week!

4. Learn something new to use photographically (AKA-perhaps read the manual and use other settings than just program, and actually know what they do :D)
Well, I'm always learning...I've using my dad's camera which is an SLR and MUCH nicer than my own...it's so hard to go back to mine after using his. *sigh* must save up!

5. Be the photographer of a photo shoot
YES!!! I was the 2nd shooter at a wedding with my sister-in-law! It was FABULOUS! I had so much fun, and hopefully will do another with her this Summer :)

6. Sing more
I dunno, but Glee definitely helps with that :D

7. Do the 30 Day Shred consistantly
Not until December when I started doing it every day!! Well, almost. You can read about it here

8. Continue to eat healthy :P
I try! It's hard when I LOVE pizza and potato chips, and french fries, and....well you see what I mean :P

9. Cultivate a more positive attitude about my appearance
I'm still working on it, as I imagine most people are...

10. Love people more and think about myself less.
Again..always working on it. However, it is not hard to love the new person in my life this year...so I think I win on that one ;)

Hey everyone! It's Christmas!! I've got a full 4 days of celebrating in store:

Tonight: Christmas eve at the boy's house (I'm told it will include some gifts, hot hamburger chip dip(!!!), Teen Wolf and some wii dance games! SO PUMPED!)
Christmas Day: Relaxing at home, then Christmas with the boy's family in the evening
Sunday: Christmas with my man, and "Christmas Eve" with my family
Monday: "Christmas Day" With my family!
YIKES! That's a whole lot-o Christmas! I'm excited. I'm hoping for some good old relaxation time, good food and good company :)

My friend Cherlyn awarded me the stylish blogger award last week! The rules are that I have to share 7 things about myself. So here you are.

1. For about 3 years I thought I was lactose intolerant, but it turns out I am not! YAY CHEEEEEESE and PIZZA and ICE CREAM!!!

2. I have a metaphorical million projects in the making which inlude but are not limited to:
-more circle scarves!
-a cute dress idea
-tank tops for next spring/summer!
-cute hair clips!
-altering my own clothes
-vintage dresses that need mini-ing
-photos to edit!
-new ideas to attempt!

3. I don't like to fail when I create something new, so I have a problem starting something because I get frustrated when it doesn't work out. But I want to get past that and take some risks cuz how am I going to learn if I don't make mistakes? :)

4. Shows I'm watching this season:

-GLEEEEEEEE!

-The Office!
-Project Runway (I know it's over, but it's worth a mention because it is AMAZING!)

5. I could be a Forever 21 poster child with all the clothes I have from them...it's a bit ridiculous.

6. My favorite thing from Starbucks is a decaf peppermint white mocha and a cranberry bliss bar (Only available at CHRISTMAS) SO DELICIOUS!! I have yet to have one this Christmas season, but it will happen! IT MUST! My 2nd favorite drink would be a White hot chocolate with a shot of cinnamon dolce. *swoon*

7. On Saturday I am having a table at a local flea market! It's the first time they're doing it, so we'll see how it goes, but I'm making new circle scarves and hair clips for it this week! I'm excited :)

We had our first snow this weekend and I couldn't help but take a few pictures. I am not a fan of the cold weather, but the snow falling is really pretty :)

Hello friendly readers! Today I am feeling like sharing a few goals I have with you.

1. I REALLY want to start transforming some of my clothes that I don't wear, but still keep around, into something cute and altered by me, that I want to wear again! I'm hoping to do this once a week and I'll share with you the DIY process :) If I get to anything tomorrow I will post pictures!
(Remember this? It'll be like that, except better :D

2. Make really cute dresses. I can't show you a picture, but I have a cute idea and will be sure to show you if it works out :D

3. Keep working on my Home Ec class! I had to stop for a craft sale I was working on, but now that it is over I should get back to it!

4. Some super secret hair clip ideas! I can't tell you! But they're gonna be SO CUTE and very hip and tres chic and you and all your friends will want them.

Birthday Weekend!

Friday was my birthday! Lots of lovely things happened for my birthday:

On Thursday:
1. It was a holiday!
2. Had supper with my parents and some relatives that were out

On Friday:
1. I was awoken in the morning by my lovely boyfriend sneaking into my room to wish me a happy birthday :)
2. Went for Chinese with some friends for lunch!
3. My man made me pizza for supper
4. My brother and his wife took us to Boston Pizza for appetizer's and drinks!

Then on Saturday, my boyfriend had planned a super sweet day in the city :)

1. We picked up coffee for the road
2. Went to see Avatar in 3D at the Imax!!
3. Picked up some friends and went for SUSHI!!! So delicious.
4. Ate some amazing birthday cake

5. Played Killer bunnies!

AND went to a nice restaurant with the boy's family last night. It was fabulous.
YIKES! That is a lot of birthday madness! Probably the most I've ever done (or had done for me) for a birthday ever! All because of some special people in my life whom I love very much :D

And I also received some lovely gifts! I won't show you all of them, but I did get another Mungo hoodie from my man! BEST gift EVER!

-photoshoot with my new model (!!!!) for my etsy shop!
-birthday supper with my family (I requested tacos and my mom's ice cream cake OR peanut butter pie, both delicious)
-my birthday on Friday!!
-Super secret (even to me) plans on Saturday :D I can't wait!

The twist flower bobby pins are all ready to go for the craft sale this weekend!! I'm so excited, I have trouble falling asleep because I can't stop thinking about it!

I've never had the opportunity to do couple's costumes before, and this year I got to do 2! On Friday, my man and I went to Boo at the Zoo with friends of ours (they made AMAZING lego people costumes, they were quite fantastic!) and we went as Burger King and Dairy Queen! It was super fun. I dressed in all white and a red blazer-and I made the ice cream cone head band the night before, he dressed in all brown and wore the crown from the restaurant! We got a lot of looks and heard a lot of "Hey it's Burger King and Dairy Queen! You guys are making me hungry!" and "COOOOOL, lego people!" It was a lot of fun

Then tonight we went to a friend's house to for fondue and pumpkin carving! We had put a lot of effort into our other costumes, so we went with something a little simpler, but still effective :D A double rainbow!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend! I have more cute things to show you next week that I've prepared for the craft sale and will be going into my shop afterwards!

I was browsing my daily blogs today and I came across this really cool etsy shop, Et al., Etc. on Creature Comforts. What's neat about it is the way they advertise their items in their shop. It's so unique and creative, and it is definitely catching attention. Very cool
